History and Current: EventsEach week the children participate in circle time and discuss what’s going on in the world around them. Past events are presented to the children in order to simulate thoughts. History is implemented into our current event curriculum to assist children in understanding why life is the way it is today and how it will be used to understand the future.
Gross Motor: Reesa Ann Academy has a large play area and an outdoor playground that is utilized daily by each classroom. Structured, planned games and exercises are a part of our play time. There are two outdoor play grounds. Every classroom has an assigned outside playtime daily. Exercises in our classrooms or dancing to music are other ways in which we develop gross motor skills and coordination.
Fine Motor and Block Building: Putting together puzzles is an everyday occurrence. Manipulating toys, crayons, and scissors helps to enhance a child’s fine motor skills. Eye-hand coordination skills such as; sorting objects, making a tower with blocks, and other fine motor skills are practiced each day.
Math: Depending on the age of the child, math concepts are incorporated into our daily lesson plans. Playing with blocks, children learn to sort by colors and shapes, solve problems by developing a plan and carrying it through, and develop basic math skills by counting out the blocks needed for their project. Even the two-year-old children begin basic math skills by counting food (A child will receive two crackers, if they eat one they have one left).
Dramatic Play: This type of play consists of much make-believe. Children can play dress-up, pretend to work in a kitchen, or imagine they are a mom, dad, actor, or teacher.
Literacy and Language Development: Language is developed through many everyday experiences. It is developed through listening to and learning songs, finger-play, and books. Language is also developed through everyday conversations with peers and adults. Phonics is reviewed each day during our preschool time.
Art/Creativity Center: Art allows children to express themselves individually and creatively. Art also teaches a child important listening skills by hearing and following instructions. Most supplies used in our Art Center are shared, which enhances cooperation and group interaction. It also allows children to explore colors, textures, and patterns. Many projects completed are theme-related projects.
Science and Discovery: Our preschool offers many activities and experiments each week. The topics include facts about the body, weather, problems solving, and nutrition, nature, and health issues.
Extracurricular Programming: Our center offers additional programming throughout the year. These extracurricular activities and lessons have separate registration forms and will be billed monthly in addition to our tuition costs. Basic overviews of these lessons are always offered in our daily curriculum. Parents wanting more intense training for their children are encouraged to register their child in our extracurricular programming.
Foreign Languages: Reesa Ann Academy offers the children an opportunity to learn Spanish, French or Sign Language. During the course of a year your child will be exposed to information about other cultures and will even learn a little foreign language. There is no additional cost for this service.
